Simile: a figurative language that compare unlike things using like or as
Quote: "The quiet is almost as big as he is" (Philbrick 103).
Explanation: It's comparing quiet to Max. It means that it was very quiet.
Quote: "But Freak is riding me like he's the jockey and I'm the horse..." (Philbrick 78).
Explanation: I think that this means that Freak is like the jockey since he sits in Max's shoulders and Max is like the horse because Freak is controlling him just as what you will do to a horse.
Quote: "Meanwhile, Freak is giving me this look like he has no idea whats going on" (Philbrick 69).
Explanation: I think this means that Freak has no idea what Max is talking about.
Quote: "I'm like a big fence post..." (Philbrick 38).
Explanation: I think this means that he tries to block something or someone or he just stood still there.
Quote: "I stretch out my feet long as my legs..." (Philbrick 37).
Explanation: I think this means that he tried to stretch his feet really long because it was dirty.
Metaphor: A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison without using like or as

Explanation: This is comparing the fence to a target because if you stood still like a fence you would be a target for someone who throws something at you.

Explanation: This is comparing how Freak digs into a horse and for Max it clicks in his head.
Quote: "The poison never crossed his lips...that sure looks like a bottle-beer" (Philbrick 28).
Explanation: This is comparing the poison to a beer because beer are bad for your health so it makes sense if you called it a poison.

Explanation: This is a personification because its says that feet are pitter-pattering and it kinda gives it a personification figurative language.

Explanation: This is personification because you can't really follow your feet.

Explanation: This is personification because brain cannot literally show off but it can if its thinking but show off can't happen.
