Morquio Syndrome
Where
By: Thrixie Mendoza Where did this Morquio syndrome started? Freak must have gotten the disease because someone in his relatives that died already must have got it and got passed to him. Also, maybe his parents are somewhat related because of the genetics."Morquio syndrome is an autosomal recessive trait. If both parents carry the defective gene related to this condition, each of their children has a 25% chance of developing the disease" (Morquio Syndrome Causes 2). This means you have two copies of each gene: one from your dad and one from your mom. If the disease is autosomal dominant you only need one copy of the disease carrying-gene to get the disease with autosomal recessive. Both genes must not carry the disease. |

By: Samantha Blanc The disease was first described, simultaneously and independently, Luis Morquio , a prominent Uruguayan physician who discovered it in Montevideo, and James FredericK (1888–1961), an English radiographer in Birmingham, England. They both recognized the occurrence of corneal clouding, aortic valve disease, and urinary excretion of keratan sulfate. Morquio observed the disorder in four siblings in a family of Swedish extraction and reported his observations in French.
